The goal of weight loss surgery is to help you live better, healthier and longer. Weight loss or bariatric surgery is major surgery, and many things must be considered by both surgeon and patient before going forward with the procedure. The surgery can contribute to major weight loss and improvement of obesity-related health problems, but you will have to make behavioral and dietary changes to achieve lasting weight loss results.
Weight loss surgery is not cosmetic surgery. Though successful weight loss surgery often results in better mobility, more energy, higher confidence, and more self-esteem, these are some of the positive side effects of weight loss. The true goal of the surgery is to restore your health.
Setting realistic expectations is important to achieving a positive outcome. Attend one of our seminars to learn more and ask questions of our surgeon and professional staff. They will be able to answer your questions clearly and explain the details of the procedure, the recovery, and the changes you will need to make to have a successful result.
During your first appointment at Roller Weight Loss & Advanced Surgery, you will meet with our Bariatric Medical Specialist and an extensive medical evaluation will be conducted. All the appropriate tests and consultations will be ordered. In addition, you will meet with one of our bariatric dieticians to review both pre- and post-op nutritional plans. You will also be evaluated by our bariatric psychologist.
We want you to have a clear understanding of what to expect from the process and the changes you will make. Before attending our seminar, discuss weight loss surgery with your friends and family, and help them understand your motivations and what the surgery can help you accomplish. Choose someone close to you to be your support person, who will attend the seminar and appointments with you.
It is important to remember that there are no ironclad guarantees in any kind of medicine or surgery. There can be unexpected outcomes in even the simplest procedures. What can be said, however, is that weight loss surgery will only succeed when you make a lifelong commitment to increasing your activity level and eating healthier. Because we want to see you succeed, we will offer help along the way, including support groups and an online community for our patients.
Ultimately, the decision to have weight loss surgery is up to you. Be honest with yourself about whether you’re ready, and we will be here for you when you make your decision.
