With his impressive list of surgical specialties and extensive education, Dr. Goparaju has changed the lives of his patients for the better. He shares his treatment philosophy best: “My philosophy is to treat the patient in front of me, not just the disease or the disease process. This requires I understand their entire history and any problems they may have so I can consider everything during the planning of treatment programs.”

An Intentional Emphasis on Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures

Dr. Goparaju moved from New York City, where he served as an Assistant Professor faculty at NYU Long Island School of Medicine between 2018 and 2022. While there, he was a member of the trauma surgery staff, where he regularly managed emergency and trauma cases. Dr. Goparaju also performed numerous bariatric and general surgery operations using advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques while at NYU Long Island School of Medicine. For most operations, Dr. Goparaju relies on advanced minimally invasive surgery techniques, including robotics. This emphasis perfectly aligns with our mission at Roller Weight Loss and Advanced Surgery.

Dr. Goparaju has published numerous papers and presented at national conferences on topics including robotics in general surgery and complex revisional bariatrics. Dr. Goparaju was recognized and awarded the 2021-2022 Outstanding Faculty of the Year award by the surgical staff.

Education and Background

Raised in Sugar Land, Texas, Dr. Goparaju graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology Magna Cum Laude at the University of Houston. He remained in Houston for his medical training at McGovern Medical School. During that time, he developed a passion for surgery and surgical technology to improve patient outcomes.

After completing his General Surgery residency training at Lincoln Medical Center (Bronx, NY), he became an affiliate of Weill Cornell Medical College, where he became adept at complex open and trauma techniques. Dr. Goparaju then completed his fellowship in Advanced GI surgery, bariatrics, and robotics at the NYU Long Island School of Medicine (NYU LISOM).

Dr. Goparaju is board certified in general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He also maintains membership in the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
