Arkansas ACT 628: Weight Loss Surgery Is Now Covered by Private Insurance. It’s The Law.
Starting January 1, 2026, private insurance and most employer plans in Arkansas will be required to cover bariatric surgery and the care around it. If you’ve ever been told “no” by insurance before, that just changed.
A lot of us have looked into surgery in the past, gotten excited, then hit a wall when insurance wouldn’t pay. Arkansas Act 628 removes that wall for roughly 750,000+ Arkansans with private insurance.
Ready to move forward? Next step is to watch our free online seminar to get your questions answered and see exactly how the process works.
Why Bariatric Surgery?
Most of our patients tried the pills, shots, and fad diets first. Diets and drugs can work for some, until you stop them. Surgery changes how your body works, so the results last.
With Arkansas ACT 628, the most effective tool for fighting obesity is finally within reach for most Arkansans with private insurance.
Why surgery is different:
- Surgery can help you lose 50% of their body weight, while shots average 15%.
- Your weight stays off long-term (Compared to weekly shots, for life.)
- 70–80 % of patients stop or reduce diabetes, blood pressure, and sleep apnea meds after surgery
- Saves you thousands a year compared to on-going medications and injections

I live out-of-state, can I still have surgery with Roller Weight Loss?
Absolutely, patients from across the nation choose Roller Weight Loss for our exceptional success rates and cutting-edge surgical procedures. Your patient care coordinator will guide you in coordinating your visit for surgery with Roller Weight Loss, from travel to lodging options, we’re here to make it easy.
How long can I expect to be off work?
In general, we recommend a two-week hiatus from strenuous activities and heavy lifting following the procedure. If your occupation does not require these activities, most patients typically return to work within one to two weeks.
I had a surgery elsewhere, can you revise it?
Absolutely, We do revisions on patients that have had surgery elsewhere. This is particularly true of the lap sleeve gastrectomy and the lap band. Both of the surgeries can require revisions because the weight loss is just not as good as the other procedures. Our goal is to assess your unique circumstances and recommend the most effective procedure to ensure your long-term success.
