What is the Orbera Gastric Balloon?

Orbera is a balloon that is temporarily placed in the stomach for a maximum of six months to help you feel less hunger. You can expect most of the weight loss to occur during the six months while the Orbera is in place.

Candidates for Orbera in Fayetteville, Tulsa, and Fort Smith

Orbera is ideal for patients who have a BMI of less than 35 and need to lose less than 50 pounds. It’s also a great tool for patients who need to lose weight prior to surgery to make their surgical procedures safer.

How does it work? Will I lose weight?

During these six months, you’ll learn more about eating correct portions. Our dietitians will help you focus on eating the right foods to help set you up for success in the future.

What is the procedure?

The placement and removal of Orbera are fairly simple procedures and are completed endoscopically, without any incisions. If you’re a candidate for the Orbera balloon, it will be placed by Dr. Roller, the region’s most experienced Orbera provider. This procedure does not require any surgical incisions, nor do patients need to undergo general anesthesia. Placement and removal typically take just 15 minutes and are completed on an outpatient basis.

Benefits of Orbera

If you have concerns about undergoing weight loss surgery or need to lose some weight to become eligible for a bariatric procedure, you deserve to experience the benefits of FDA-approved Orbera.

  • No incisions
  • No stitches
  • Removable
  • FDA-approved
  • Effective
  • Non-invasive

What is the procedure?

The Orbera gastric balloon is inserted into the stomach through your mouth, which requires about 20 minutes to complete. You will be under mild sedation to make the procedure comfortable and painless. Once the deflated balloon is in place, it will be filled with sterile saline, inflating the balloon. The grapefruit-sized, saline-filled balloon now takes up some of the space in your stomach. It slows digestion and makes you feel full after consuming much less food.

A six-month guided weight loss program

Once the Orbera balloon is in place, you will embark on a six-month guided program with support from our professional team at Roller Weight Loss & Advanced Surgery. Patients lose in the range of 20-50 pounds during the six-month program, or more. After six months, the balloon is removed in a simple, fast procedure. Your guided weight loss program continues for six more months with a personalized diet and exercise program.

Am I a candidate for the Orbera Gastric Balloon?

To be a candidate for this non-surgical weight loss system you must meet certain criteria:

  • You have a BMI between 30 and 40 and other attempts to lose weight and keep it off have not been effective.
  • You must agree to participate in the 12-month program, along with the diet and exercise plan, which will be supervised by our professionals.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
